BREAKING: Governor Ayade Orders Immediate Resumption of CRUTECH

|Cornelius Ella|23 May, 2017|

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has directed that Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) resumes academic activities immediately.

This was announced by Mr Godwin Ettah, the state's Commissioner of Education, during a chat with Maurice Inok of HIT 95.9 FM Calabar, on "the hit breakfast show" this morning.

According to the Commissioner, this announcement supersedes an earlier directive by the University's Management on indefinite closure of the school.

It would be recalled that the university's management announced an indefinite closure of the institution yesterday, following what has been described as an unruly protest by some students, during the commencement of first semester examination.

The protest followed the university management's enforcement of an earlier notice that only students who are not indebted or who owe not more than a semester's fees are eligible to sit for the examination.
It is assumed that indebted students masterminded and partook in the protest.

Meanwhile, it is not yet clear if staff and students of the university would immediately resume as directed by the state government, as this is the first time that a directive on resumption is coming from "above".

What remains clear is that all isn't well in the university, at the moment.
