| 30 March 2018 | Correspondent

The Senate of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), at its 98th Regular meeting held Thursday, 29th March 2018 at the Senate Chambers of the institution, elected Professor, (Mrs) Ijeoma Aniedi Archibong of the Faculty of Education as the 3rd Dean of the institution's Post Graduate (PG) School.

In the election ballots counted and announced in the glare of all Senate members, by the returning officer, former ASUU Chairman and now CRUTECH Orator , Professor Stephen Ochang, under the watch of the Vice Chancellor /Chairman of Senate, Professor Anthony Owan Enoh, assisted by the Registrar /Secretary to CRUTECH Governing Council, Mr Gabriel Beshel, Professor (Mrs) Archibong scored a total of 38 votes to emerge winner against Professor( Mrs) Mercy Ikpi Ugot of the Center for General Studies and Professor Benedict Ofem of the Faculty of Agriculture, Obubra Campus, who respectively scored 16 and 15 votes  out of the 70 accredited votes cast.

Until now, Professor Archibong who  succeeds Professor Abara Enagu Abara of the Faculty of Science after handing over in the coming month, was former Dean at the Education Faculty and Director of Academic Planning (DAP) of the University.

Mrs Archibong is one of the few indigenous CRUTECH Professors of Education (sic) to progressively rise in administrative positions within four years. Records equally show that the Dean elect became Professor two years ago while still in Office as DAP. This is the first time in the history of the institution to have PG School Deanship election outside management's approved appointment by the VC. Thus Mrs Archibong becomes the first democratically elected Dean of CRUTECH PG School since foundation about nine years ago, during the administration of Professor Ene-Obong Effiom Ene-Obong as CRUTECH Vice Chancellor.
