CRS Schools of Nursing get full Accreditation for the first time ever

The Cross River State College of Health Technology has finally gotten full accreditation by the Nursing Board in Nigeria.

Following the full accreditation for the first time ever of the school of Midwifery Ogoja and the approval for the school of Nursing Obudu to commence basic Midwifery program respectively by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong has embarked on another round of inspection and facility tour to ensure all is set for the admission of new intakes.

Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Asibong said 'the State has been battling for quite some time to secure full accreditation and approval for all her schools of Nursing and Midwifery, and while at it we also deemed it important to provide the basic requirements to ensure our prospective students receive the best training. Currently we have some repairs and renovations ongoing as well as upgrading some key areas of these schools like the libraries, laboratories, dormitories, class room blocks as well as the school perimeters.'

The Acting Director of Nursing Services in the State, Mrs. Rita Atuake, expressed her gratitude to the State Government, Particularly the Commissioner, for ensuring the accreditation pursuit came to a fruition. She added that the Nursing Board as well as the Department of Nursing Services in the State are eager to welcome new students on board, as the State is in a hurry to curb the dearth of health care workers in her health sector.

The schools have received beds and mattresses for their dormitories, study kits and furniture for their libraries, dolls and laboratory equipment for their laboratories, upgrading of their classroom blocks as well as a general facelift of the premises to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council specifications.

Principals, Administrative Officers and students alike of these schools thanked the State Government for coming at the nick of time to give the schools the much needed support despite the meagre allocation from the Federal Government.

His Excellency, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade through the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, has also inaugurated a 6-man Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Committee to ensure the full accreditation and approval of all the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the State, and also followup with the other accredited schools to remain within the ever improving standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
