The silence that always characterized the environment of Department of Mass Communication of Cross River University of Technology was broken on Wednesday as wild jubilation erupted from from the department. The Jubilations was crazy enough to disrupt academic activities.

Investigating further our correspondent gathered that history was been created as Dr. Jacob Abga a visually impeded scholar emerged the Faculty Dean in the elections conducted that fateful Wednesday.

Dr. Agba who is also said to be the coordinator of the faculty's postgraduate school beat his closest rival Dr. Ndoma Brown a former head of department with 20 votes leaving the former HOD with 13 votes.

Agba's emergence is historic because he is not only the first visually impaired scholar to serve in that capacity, but also the first to assume the seat without first becoming a HOD.

According to a report by Dr. Agba had once in an interview declared he will one day attain the position of a Vice Chancellor despite the series of discriminations meted against him from the university community.

"I can become even the Vice Chancellor of the university if I am Professor. When that time comes, anybody that would discriminate against me, I will take him even to the Supreme Court". Agba affirmed.

" I can assure you that I have been here in CRUTECH for 13 years now. Among our regular staff, I was actually the first to have a Ph.D., but I tell you, I have not been appointed Head of Department. I know that has to do with my background, yet I have done my work to convince everybody that I can function at any point in time. I have not concluded that the job has passed me by. I am still hoping that one day I can occupy that position. He said.

"When that time comes, anybody that would discriminate against me, I will take him even to the supreme Supreme Court." He further threatened

In his acceptance speech, Agba assured everyone of his willingness to justify the definition of a leader.

He also said colleagues tried to dissuade him to relax his ambition, but he parried it and wanted to put his popularity to test.

"I assure you that I will not fail you. The other side of me which appears to be a challenge, if you are with me, we can do better.

"When God called Moses to send him to Aaron, he complained of his speech problem. God asked him a question, 'don't you have Aaron, your brother with you?' At any point that any level of challenge press me down, I will remember that you are my Aaron there and I can call on any one of you to support me," he said.
