| 30th June 2018 | Ukorebi Esien

The Director-General of Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority, Comrade Kingsley Ita Ikpeme, has called on security agencies in the state to take more proactive measures to clamp down on perpetrators of secret cult activities in the state and no sacred cow should be spared. TDN can report.
Comrade Ikpeme who made this known in a press release signed and made available to TDN maintained that its agency s condemning in strong terms the frequent secret cult clashes in the state especially the recent cult clash of 27th June 2018 in Calabar South Local Government Area leading to the death of about six youths.
The DG requested a thorough investigation be carried out by security agencies in the state as a matter of urgency and bring to Justice the perpetrators and their sponsors to serve as a deterrent to others. Noting that parent also has a role to play in ensuring a peaceful society by taking the upbringing of their children as one of the major responsibilities of responsible parenthood as it's biblical, for the Bible and enjoins parents to bring up their children in the way of the Lord (Prov. 22:6).

The elegant and proactive DG also used the opportunity to advised Cross River state Youths to see themselves as partners in today's Government and prime movers of events in any society whether positively or negatively, they could be used as agents of destruction when neglected.

The Government of Sen.(Prof) Ben Ayade has shown confidence in the leadership of the youth, by appointing more youth into Governance, than any other previous administration in the state, therefore, it will only be normal for our Youths to  reciprocate this kind gesture by proving their worth in their various field of endeavors and shun all societal vices.

They should as part of their contribution towards Nation Building; ensure the sustenance of peace, law and order which Cross River State is known for, while we maintain Cross River as the preferred tourist and industrial hub in the country, as there cannot be any meaningful development in an atmosphere devoid of peace, law, and order. He maintained.

Comrade Ikpeme also called on all religious leaders, traditional leaders, parents, guidance and well-meaning individuals not to see youth empowerment and capacity Development as the exclusive right of the Government, but they should all see themselves as partners in Productive youth engagement, he went on to suggest that Micro-credit scheme, small and medium businesses could be launched to positively engage the youth, as the part of their contributions towards reducing frequent rates in the State.

"We call on the youth to also see themselves as Ambassadors of their respective families, they should shun act which is inimical to the image of their families, such as Secret Cult Activities, Drug Abuse, Gangsterism, Kidnapping, Rape etc.

Let's have it at the back of our minds that the long hands of the Law will surely catch up on with the perpetrators. It is on this note that we call on the sponsors of this frequent cult clashes and other criminal activities in the state to desist from this barbaric act.

This frequents cult clashes and other security issues in various parts of the state should be clampdown as it doesn't befit our statue as the tourism and industrial hub.

The security agencies need to be more proactive and live up to expectations, No secret cow should be spare because Businesses are relocating from Calabar to neighboring States and we can't afford to lose all this. Cross Riverians should rise up and fight this ugly monster".
