Robbers raid FCT kill Police officer and Catholic priest

Gwagwalada, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was Saturday night under attack as robbers shot dead one police officer identified as inspector Emma and a Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Michael Akawu

Information reaching our newsroom has it that the robbers who started robbing innocent citizens right from the Gwagwalada expressway down to First Bank along park road where the robbers forced customers to withdraw from the ATM. The raid, according to residents around lasted for over an hour.

A source familiar with the incidence also revealed that the slain cleric who was ordained last year was said to be the first indigenous priest in the Gwagwalada area, while the Police inspector is a Cross Riverian who was newly posted to Gwagwalada.

According to some eyewitness account, the incident happened when the suspected robbers took their raid to a supermarket close to CD Plaza. One of the robbers was said to have recognized the police officer, shook hands with him before shooting in the stomach. 

The Rev. Father was said to have been shot dead while trying to escape into his Hilux. Upon sighting the Hilux, the robbers mistook him for a police officer and landed a bullet on him.

A Police officer revealed that the robbers may have raided the peaceful Gwagwalada town based on a tip-off as Police officers were on a special assignment outside Gwagwalada and the few left behind could not remedy the situation because there were no patrol vehicles as at the time.
