Calabar standstill as Prince Otu once again steps out to Battle for the soul C'river South

Saturday 8th September was a day to remember as Calabar, the capital city of Cross River state came to a standstill while the people's Senator, a two-time Federal House of Representative Member and a one-time Senator, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu declared his intention to contest for the Cross River State Southern Senatorial District Senate seat in 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While declaring his intention to gun for the senatorial seat at the Red Chambers, the senator who whose ambition was cut shot in 2015 told constituents and party faithful present that he has stepped out for the race just because of them. 

In his words; 
 ''I have come to answer all your telephone calls and respond to your invitations. I have come to reverse the satanic slogan of ''no money'' while millions of naira go into private pockets with leakages in Dubai and Swiss Hotels. I have come to reconstruct your broken hope of training your children, putting roofs over your head and living a happy and sustainable life. I have come to re-erect that beacon of hope that will lead us to a voice that cannot be silenced.''  he said.

"...You have so much enormous power in your small but loaded Voter's Card to press a button that can change the December-December empowerment to an everyday contact with your servant-leader representative...

He added: ''I have come prepared to take your counsel, your voice to the council of Nigerian voices. I have come with much bigger breasts loaded with fresh milk of compassion and abundance from where you can draw freely and become big, strong and happy again. I have come with stronger legs to run the race and fitted hands to rewrite our history. My legislative priorities remain the same, to strive for ecological balance in our environment, enhancement and empowerment of human capacity in our district, to meet with contemporary challenges, building an egalitarian society where both the rich and the poor can live in perfect harmony.

Also Speaking at the event Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong, a governorship aspirant still under the aegis of the APC, said, "Prince Bassey Otu was prematurely plucked out of the Senate, but this time, he will be going with ease. It is now God's time for him to stroll back to take the senate seat in 2019. Please, let us come together to rescue Cross River State."

Meanwhile, High Chief Edem Duke, former Minister of Culture, Tourism and Orientation said, "Today, the Prince has stepped out in grand style and it's the giant leap of the Senatorial District. Today, Prince Otu is to lead a revolution to recover what really belongs to the Southern Senatorial District."

Earlier in his opening remarks, chairman of the occasion and elder statesman, Dr Emmanuel Nsan, lauded president Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as the man whom God has chosen to lead the people into the future. He commended Buhari Youth Organization (BYO) for queuing behind Senator Bassey Otu, assuring them that they are not alone.

Also speaking, the state chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Dr Matthew Achigbe, said Senator Bassey Otu performed well in his first outing at the senate and that the people have missed a lot in his absence. Dr Achigbe went on to assure that the party would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants, warning members to desist from acts capable of destroying the party. He however appealed for all to work together as a party to advance the course of governance in the state.

The high point of the occasion was presentation of letter of endorsement to Prince Bassey Otu by the National present cordinator of the Buhari Youth Organisation, BYO, goodwill messages and endorsement by notable individuals and support groups respectively. the event was graced by party bigwigs and other notable palersons such as Mr Sylvester Nsa, Cross River commissioner in NDDC, Dr Dominic Aqua Edem, Dr Julius Okputu, Chief Alex Egbuna, Hon. Bassey Akiba, Hon. Nkpanam Obo, Chief Wilfred Inah, Other prominent figures present include Ntufam Hilliard Eta, APC South-South Chairman, Pst. Usani Usani, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and several others.
