As the world celebrates the girl child on the 11th October 2018, a Non-Governmental Organisation known as African Focus For Youth Development (AFFYD) in Kano state, has demanded for a 12 year free education for the girl child in the state.

This demand was made earlier this week when AFFYD with support from Youthub Africa, mobilised  students, activists, CSO coalitions, the media and other stakeholders for a peaceful rally/walk to the Kano State House of Assembly to commemorate the day.
The peaceful walk to the Kano State House of Assembly was to demand that all girls deserve atleast 12 years of free and quality education and to also encourage the House to sign into law the African Child Protection Bill.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Director of AFFYD, Amb Emmanuel Gabari, said "when we empower the girl child and support her dreams, she grows up to become a better citizen and contribute to the economic and social growth of our nation. Most importantly, girls' empowerment will help immensely in Countering Voilent Extremism (CVE)".

In response, the two lawmakers who received the group at the state House of Assembly, welcomed them to the complex with a promise to convey their demands to the House during the next plenary session.
