The Cross River State Women Table Tennis team at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abuja are on their way to grabing the Gold medal of the competition as they qualified for the bronze medal position after beating their Abia and Bayelsa counterparts in the round of 16 and Quater final stages respectively.

The girls, Cecilia Ime and Janet Friday who represented the state in the women table tennis team games reached the medal table after beating their Bayelsa counterpart in the quater finals on Saturday night to progress to the semi finals which automatically qualifies them for a bronze medal.

The team has been tipped by their coach Mr. Richard George Edem to clinch the Gold medal. Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Edem expressed confidence that the duo will progress to the final where they will clinch the gold medal.

Mr. Orok Duke, Chairman of the Cross River State Sports commission had also informed newsmen at the end of the quarterfinals games that the girls having trained and adequately prepared for the competition has all it takes to return home with the gold medal.

In a related development, the men's table Tennis team of Cross River State crashed out of the competition after lossing to their Bayelsa state counterpart on Saturday night. Expressing dissapointment in the team's performance, Coach Richard Edem said the boys might have played with fatigue after playing several games in the round of 16 games where they beat a better side only to bow out to a lesser team in the Quater finals.
