Hilary Ekpang Bisong: A Star that must keep shinning by Kennedy Nsan

People love leaders who give themselves to others. Leaders who connect with ordinary people in extraordinary ways. Leaders who recognise that power belongs to God and expressed through the will and consent of the people. Hilary Bisong represents and falls in the mold of such leadership.

Shortly after Hon. Hilary Bisong was first elected member of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRHA) in 2015, and the state organised a retreat in Obudu Ranch Resort, I joined him to cover the retreat for Crossriver Watch (CRW) and thereafter went with him to his constituency and to his mother's house in their village. From the beginning of the entrance to Okuni, every child that was on the roadside hailed 'Doro Fresh!' and waved at us as we drove into the town. It was a different experience for me and I was pleasantly excited about Hilary's popularity and how well received and accepted he was with his people.

From that day onwards, it was clear in my spirit that Hon. Hilary Bisong was going to be in this game for a longer period, even though I had my fears also shortly afterwards...

After that period and fast-forward to 2016, February 14th to be precise, during Dr Sandy Onor's birthday, the senator-elect of Cross River State Central Senatorial District, in Vanetian Mall, Calabar. I flew into town quickly to catch up with his 50th birthday celebrations, and I had heard that Hilary was having a strained relationship with the governor. I ran into Hilary and asked him to be careful not to offend his leader and governor, HE Governor Ben Ayade, he responded and said nothing was wrong and that even if there was conflict and disagreement between them which was normal in politics, that everything will be sorted out with time, since I expressed reservations about the possibility of his second term ticket. He quickly assured me that everything will be fine with time, shortly after MC Mbakara ran into us as well, we exchanged pleasantries and moved on. Indeed, everything is just fine and I rejoice with him.

As he's inaugurated for a second term, I pray that his colleagues will find him fit for a leadership position in the House since he has shown enormous capacity for leadership and the ability to carry people along.

Hilary is a trustworthy gentleman, a team player, a bridge builder, a consensus and opinion molder, his frailties and shortcomings notwithstanding.

He has proved his mettle and has enormous ability and capacity from serving as PA Students to Governor Imoke, and now warming up for a second term as member of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA).

I join his many and numerous supporters and well wishers to congratulate him on his very well deserved victory and wish him the very best on his second term as member representing Boki 2, in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Congratulations once again, Doro is a goal!
