I am your investment that must not be terminated now - Papa to constituents

Ukorebi Esien | 2nd March 2019

The House of assembly Candidate for Calabar South 2 Constituency and current deputy speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Joseph Bassey in a campaign message to his constituents reminded them that he sees himself as their investment which they must not terminate now.

While speaking to a large crowd of residence of ward 10 in Calabar South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Bassey also known as Papa disclosed to the crowd that he has come to thank them for their continues support and believes he is one politician that has benefited the most from their magnanimity in recent times.

According to him, he sees himself as their investment and does not think such an investment should be terminated at a crucial time as this.

Papa disclosed that having sojourned through the risky waters of politics and patiently waited for such a time as this, it was only normal and logical for him to be returned to the house to grab bigger opportunities and  responsibilities that awaits him.

In his words: "For me, am one of you, you have been a blessing to me and sincerely, I'm almost like your investment, you have put so much efforts to raise me to this level of my political career and am grateful to God and to you.

"Today am deputy speaker in the House, and I must tell you, your son has not done badly. Therefore, I want to appeal to you that you do not need destroy what you have built, you've made me already and am almost getting to that full blown where you will reap.

"In the House ranking matters a lot, we have junior and senior members and I have grown through the ranks. Its not easy to be an assistant, a deputy position is a spear tire position. And I have patiently waited enough, thank God my speaker is jot contesting again, your brother now has the opportunity to be the speaker. It is only God that chooses leaders and God knows I did not know neither did I plan to be a deputy speaker, its all God.

"In my sincere heart, I want to be a blessing to all of you, I now have a format, I will be working through the polling units to give out employment, empowerment and other opportunities.

"As I returned to the House, I will ensure everybody is touched, I know there are some of you here that have not benefited from my empowerment projects. So my going back will afford me the opportunity of reaching out to more people.

The grassroot politician also used the occasion to canvass for support for the governor, as he enjoined his constituents to massively give the  governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade an overwhelming vote, stating that he believes and stands for equity and fair play as such the governor who has just completed one term must be returned for a second term just as the other two senatorial district of the South and Central did.

While whipping the sentiment of equity, the deputy speaker revealed that should anyone from another zone outside the North be elected on Saturday, it spells doom for the South as they will have to wait for another eight years or more before the South can produce a governor.

" We can not be fools in our own state, let's massively vote for Ayade to return to complete eight years for the North so it can now return to the South. If power returns to the South, it could be anyone of us here.

"Ayade is the only candidate from the North, all others are from the central and we are should jealously protect our own destiny because by 2023 governorship comes to the South let's not do what we will regret next time  we can not be a fool in our own sate.

"So let's all come out and vote for PDP all the way, Cross River State is not an opposition state neither is it an APC state, we are purely a PDP state since 1999, let's maintain our status.
