World Red Cross Day 2019: Katchy calls for creation of Min. of National reconciliation

The Anambra State chapter Chairman of Nigerian Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, Professor Emeka Katchy has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency create a new ministry which he called Ministry of National Reconciliation. 

Prof. Katchy who made this call Thursday, in Awka during the World Red Cross Day celebration, argued that creation of the ministry will enhance peaceful co-existence and reduce violence, death, hardship and destructions of lives and properties in Nigeria.

" It is imperative to create enabling environment to achieve global security and safety which is central to world economic and social order to major pivots of global growth in all facets of human endeavours ". He emphasised.

Speaking on the theme of this year's celebration, "Love for Humanity", Prof. Katchy noted that the organization was focused on highlighting efforts of humanitarians all over the world and to draw attention of wold leaders and global organisations on the need to embark on rapid response to disaster emergencies and funding of humanitarian operations.

While encouraging youths to volunteer and participate in humanitarian activities, the state Red Cross Boss said the organisation was poised on giving assistance to wounded people and relief to victims of disaster, violence and conflicts.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Red Cross Society, Mrs. Rita Ngozi Nzekwu praised Governor Willie Obiano for his immense support in protecting lives and properties, as she promised that the Red Cross Society would not relent in its humanitarian supports.

The celebration which was in commemoration of the founder of the organization, Jean Henry Dunant, born on the 8th if May, 1828 in Geneva, Switzerland was held simultaneously in all the 187 member nations of the Red Cross Society world wide.

representatives of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Children Welfare Mrs. Ndidi Mezue and Commissioner for Youth and Creative Economy Mr. Bonaventure Enemali among other dignitaries  in attendance
