FATHER'S DAY: My dad is my Nigerian hero — Nyok

16 June 2019

Contrary to his previously held position that there is no Nigerian hero, an influential publisher in Cross River State and the self-styled blogger-in-chief of NEGROIDHAVEN, Efio-Ita Nyok, has made a detour submitting that his biological father, Pa Gabriel Nyok Etim is his Nigerian hero.

Nyok made this known through his social media account while celebrating his father, Etim on the occasion of the 2019 Father's Day celebrated worldwide on Sunday 16th June.

According to the blogger, Etim is his Nigerian hero for the triune category of heroic acts which he performed in raising him as a biological son, his sibling and to the Nigerian state through his patriotic services in the Nigerian Navy for over three decades.

His words, 'I held the opinion that there is no Nigerian hero since the amalgamation in 1914 by Lugard and recently, since our political independence in 1960.

'But, you are a Nigerian and have done heroic acts for me, my sibling, the family at large, and the Nigerian Navy; so, I find contradiction, at least for today, in the phrase that 'there's no Nigerian hero'. You're my Nigerian hero! I doff my hat for you!'.

Nyok in consonance with some other Nigerians opine that there is no Nigerian hero, that is, one Nigerian among the pantheon of her leader since the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914 by Lord Frederick Lugard the then colonial lord, whose selfless and patriotic acts is example enough to be emulated.

Father's Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.
