Mrs Obiano Advocates Mass Participation in Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme

AWKA - Wife of Anambra State Governor Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano has advocated for the mass participation in Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) to enable citizens access quality and affordable health care services.

 She said this during the commissioning and handing over of  two bedroom furnished bungalow to four indigent widows in Oroma-Etiti  Anam, Anambra West, Umuota Obosi,  Umunankwo and Osomala in Ogbaru Local Government Area. 

According to her, the project was supported by donor agencies and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through her Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) to better the lives of the people.

The governor's wife who assured of her determination and commitment to the development of women no matter how remote their areas might be expressed optimism that the intervention scheme would bring huge relief to benefiting communities.

" Through CAFE projects several persons has been equipped to become owners of houses and  various small scale ventures such as tailoring and fashion designing, bakery and confectionery, computer and telephone repairs, cosmetology among other services ".

In his remark, the member elect for Anambra West Constituency Chief Patrick Obalum - Udoba who expressed joy as Mrs. Iveonu Ekwenze a widow in his community benefited from the CAFE project urged  politicians to emulate the kind gesture.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi said the scheme was established to provide mandatory health insurance cover to all residents in the state.

He disclosed that  over 300, 000 persons were currently receiving care under the scheme.

" In our scheme we treat common infections and infestations like Malaria, Typhoid, Pneumoniae, Gastroenteritis, antenatal services, labour and delivery for pregnant mothers including delivery by Caesarean section".

The beneficiaries of the two bedroom bungalow with functional borehole and generator set included Mrs. Ifeoma Nwaobosi, Ngozi Osadebe, Ebelechukwu Obazue and Iveonu Ekwenze.

 Some dignitaries in attendance were top government functionaries, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III of Obosi, the member representing Orumba South at the state house of assembly, Princess Nikky Ugochukwu, Deputy director, Post Primary Schools Service Commission Mrs Patty Offia, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Donor Agency/ Programme Manager, Mrs Nneka Onwudiwe.
