One of the six objectives of the club is to take active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community

In line with it's core of existence, the Calabar Royal Leo Lions Club, District 404A2 yesterday, took it upon itself to ensure beams of smiles radiates from the face of visually impaired Christopher Edet of 14 Esor street off Edim Otop axis of Calabar, Cross River State.

"Mr. Martin Bassey the Second President of the Club informed TDN that "the Lions Club has the mandate of caring for the needed and less privileged, so when information got to us that there was a blind man who could not cater for his family, we came together as a club and then pulled our resources together and decided to visit to give him the small support we could".

While addressing newsmen, the service year Project Manager of the Club, Miss Victoria who appreciated God for the ability to reach out to Mr. Edet said, this particular project was an emotional outing to her.

In like manner, the Chartered and immediate past president of the Club, Mrs. Mercy Asuquo told TDNthat one of the core projects in the Lions Club International is carrying out projects to visually impaired where they give out medicated glasses to those recommended and surgery for those suffering from cataract. She added that Mr. Edet's case is peculiar, thus rendering him unable to carry out productive activities so they had to assist him with food items.

Mrs. Asuquo called on the public to join Lions Club to serve the less privileged and needy in the society while adding that what gives her joy is the satisfaction she derives from serving the needy.

Responding to the unexpected kind gesture, the visually impaired Edet who was visibly beaming with smiles appreciated the Lions Club saying  "I am happy for this act of kindness, may God bless you people, for seeing that because of my handicap, I can't engage in productive activities and cater for my family and you decided to come to my aid with these items, may God bless you and all your initiatives".
