Breaking: Frankland Briyai resigns as INEC REC in C’River

TDN can authoritatively confirm that the INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner to Cross River State, Dr. Frankland O. Briyai has resigned.

Briefing newsmen of his resignation in Calabar, Thursday afternoon, Dr. Briyai informed that on the 22nd of July 2019, youths of Bayelsa State took to the streets on a peaceful rally demanding he partakes in the forthcoming Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa State.

Briyai said looking at his antecedents and past records of hard work, dedication to duty and having dutifully served as INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River state where he recorded 100% success in both the House of Assembly bye elections of August 8th and November 11 in 2018 and the 2019 General elections coupled with his lifestyle of integrity, transparency and his dexterity acquired from the military and academia, he decided to honor the call of his people to serve them, thus his resignation as the INEC's Resident Electoral commissioner to Cross River state.
Dr. Briyai further disclosed that his resignation letter had since reach Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, National Chairman of INEC Monday 5th August 2019.

According to him, "Having carefully listened to the cry of my people and consulted wide, I decided to accept their call. …Therefore with effect from today, 8th August 2019 I cease to be the Resident Commissioner of INEC of Cross River State as my resignation letter is already with the national Chairman of the commission since Monday 5th of August 2019". He explained. 
…As a Resident Electoral Commissioner, I am not supposed to be politicized, so since I have been politicized, I have to leave the system". He added.  

Dr. Briyai who will be contesting the November 11 2019 gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa under the auspices of the All Progressive Congress, APC revealed that he was already a pragmatic and progressive leader even before he joined INEC said his desire for progress and development made him choose the APC as a platform to lunch his political career.

The former University don who maintained that the call on him to run for the gubernatorial seat cut across party lines, used the opportunity to advised Bayelsans to remain peaceful and avoid being used as political thugs stating that if elected governor of Bayelsa State, he will bring back the glory days of Bayelsa.

"My call to run for the gubernatorial seat of Bayelsa cuts across political parties and Bayelsans have learnt personalities not parties can build Bayelsa and they know I have the capacity". He concluded.

Dr. Briyai used the occasion to take newsmen on a tour on all the projects executed during his administration as INEC REC in Cross River state. The projects numbering about 8 in numbers are all located within the commission's premises.
