Youth activist sues for peace as he celebrates birthday, see what he told Ayade

Samuel Been CEO, Play Africa

By Ukorebi Esien

A Cross River State based Youth activist and Peace advocate, Comrade Amb. Samuel Ben, CEO of PLAY AFRICA INTERNATIONAL (PAI) celebrates 31st birthday with a call on youths in the state to peacefully coexist while advising the governor to ensure he appoints someone who will forestore peace amongst youths as commissioner for youths.

Ambassador Samuel Ben, who made this call in a birthday message made available to TDN said cultism is a virus that has eaten deep into the fabrics of youths in the state. He, therefore, called on Royal Fathers in the state to ensure this evil monster is captured and killed by constantly partnering with well-meaning NGO's and other organizations to sensitize and reorientate youths in their communities.

The CEO of Play Africa also informed that his organization has decided to take the lead by engaging young persons in ways that will channel their strength and passion towards positive and productive innovations.

He used the occasion of his birthday to call on the Governor of the state, Sen. Prof. Ben. Ayade (KSJ) to as a matter of importance endeavor to appoint a grassroots politician who has links and roots with citizens of the state as commissioner for youths and sports.

Mr. Ben who will be officially launching his Organization today as part of his birthday activities said he felt it was time to give back to the society by contributing his quota in human capacity and peace building.

He disclosed that PLAY AFRICA is an acronym for "Promoting Leadership Amongst Youths in Africa" while adding that, "Anytime you want to address the problem of any nation go to the young people who are the grassroots because it's better to train a child than to amend an Adult".

"The responsibility of changing Africa(Nigeria) rest on us the young people of Africa(Nigeria).

"In Play Africa, what we do is help equip and train those that will play a major role in shaping the New Africa(Nigeria) of our dream

"....we want to build a new generation of value-driven and responsible leaders that will think Excellence, Integrity, Accountability, and Passion for the common society at large.

Com. Amb. Samuel Ben's Birthday message reads in part:

At 31 God has been so faithful to me and His grace has kept me going. To him alone be praise in Jesus mighty name Amen.

My wonderful parent Elder and Mrs. Sunday Ben with my sister and Counsellor Joy Ben, have been the source of my strength on this journey, they have been very supportive in all ramifications.

My friends and well wishers have also been a source of encouragement, just as I can't conclude this segment of my address without mentioning my heartthrob, Thelma Asuquo Ema, she is more than a pillar of strength to me, her prayers have kept me going.

Permit me on this occasion of my 31st birthday to use this medium to address  very important and pressing issues concerning our dear state.

These issues affect every one of us. Security is one of the fundamental rights of every one of us as citizens, but cultism amongst our young persons have threatened that right. You will agree with me that we are in a total mess. Our youths have been led astray to turned their back on God due to bad leadership and mentors.

Cultism is one virus that has eaten deep into our society and in one way or the other we all will be affected sooner or later if we do nothing about it. a
Someone must take the lead to reposition the minds of youths and to disabuse their minds towards violence.

This is what we do at PLAY AFRICA INTERNATIONAL. We are poised to engage the Youths in every positive way possible, make them useful and turn their energy towards positive innovation.

On this note, I want to call on the Government of Cross River State and the Leadership of Sen Prof Ben Ayade( KSJ) to look into this key area by appointing the right people into the ministry of Youth and sports.

It is pertinent that whoever heads that ministry, should be someone who understands what being a youth on the street is, someone with innovation and skills ready to work to transform the youth ministry.  Importantly, I believe appointing a grassroots youth leaders is the key to the beginning of peaceful coexistence amongst youth in CRS, you can't appoint an 'Abuja' based politician into the ministry of Youth and sports as a Commissioner or Special Adviser and expect a good result, it can't work!

There is a saying that ...' na man where know how to climb tree fit catch.....Monkey...

Our Traditional leaders also have prominent roles to play in curbing cultism while fostering peace in the state. Especially the office of the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V as the grand patriarch of traditional stool in the state and one of the constitutionally recognized treaty Kings in Nigeria, he mustn't keep mute and act like all is well and nothing is happening when our young ones are dying day by day. We must talk them out of the mess they have found themselves in by constantly keeping in touch with them through organizing the summit, talk show and setting up programs that will reorientate the youths.

All this can be achieved by Partnering with the Right NGO's and that's what PLAY AFRICA INTERNATIONAL is doing with Cross River State youths for Peace and Security Initiative.

Finally, I will like to call on the Youths of Cross River State to shade their sword and embrace Peace. We don't have any other state to call our own.

We must breath Cross River...Think Cross River and live for Cross River State.

Proudly CRS...

Happy Birthday to me.....
