I Won't Seek a Third Term Through a Surrogate – Gov Emmanuel

Governor Udom Emmanuel announced Friday, that he has no plan to continue as Governor of Akwa Ibom State for a third term in 2023, using a surrogate as a successor.

Mr. Emmanuel whose arrival from official assignments in Abuja, Friday, was greeted by different crowds of supporters right from the airport through to the city center, made this known while interacting with the leadership and some members of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, foremost socio cultural organization of the Ibibio youths, that stormed Government House gate to celebrate his victory at the Governorship petitions tribunal.


"I usually hear people saying he has anointed someone who will take over from him so that he can be able to manipulate the person to do his bidding after leaving office, I want to assure you that it is not true"

"As I Speak, it is only God who knows who my successor will be. When He presents him, we will support him to also succeed. I commend Mboho for the role it has played in maintaining peace in our dear state. The peace of Akwa Ibom State will never be shaken" Mr. Emmanuel added

He thanked all Akwa Ibomites and the Association for their surprise welcome and support to his administration.

He appreciated the Mboho for uniting in support to him, despite all odds, during the election, and urged them to continue supporting his administration to achieve the completion agenda.
Earlier, the President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akpawara Patrick Edwin Udofia said the association came to register their goodwill to the State Chief Executive on his second term confirmation by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

He reassured Mr. Emmanuel that God who saw him through his first term would also see him through a successful second term in office.

"As owners of the land that this Government House is located, we the Ibibios have again reiterated that no one else is licensed to occupy this Government House until 2023, except Governor Udom Emmanuel", he said amidst cheers and applause from members of the association.

Moments earlier, students of Akwa Ibom State under the aegis of National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students NAAKISS, and some Entertainers, welcomed Governor Emmanuel to back to State and celebrated him at the Globe Square, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

The Governor assured the students that his administration would continue to prioritize education, and urge them to come out with creative ideas which he is ready to harness and develop into global brands.

A large crowd of youths and women group had earlier welcomed the Governor at the Victor Attah International Airport amidst cheers and victory songs.
