BREAKING: Journalist Charged With Treason, Agba Jalingo Takes Plea As Trial

The trial of journalist and rights activist, Agba Jalingo commenced fully on Wednesday when he took his plea on the amended charges filed by the prosecution.

The initial charges preferred against him bordered on terrorism, treasonable felony, cultism and attempt to topple the Cross River State government

And, the Judge had on October 23, 2019 granted leave for the prosecution to amend its charges.

The first charge which bordered on cultism in an attempt to force Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State to resign has been amended to be an act of terrorism perpetrated against the Federal Government.

Mr. Jalingo pleaded "not guilty" to the four charges.

The prosecution Counsel, Dennis Tarhemba, a Deputy Superintendent of Police had asked for a short date to continue the trial.

However, the defense led by Adeyinka Olumide-fusika SAN, argued that there was no reason for adjournment as the trial has suffered so many adjournments for commencement of trial.

However, an argument ensued between the presiding Judge, Justice Simon Amobeda and Fusika and the case has been stood down for 10 minutes.
