Fix Itu/Odukpani road or we shut it down, group threaten FG, NDDC

The Niger Delta Activists Forum(NDAF) has given the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs; Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing 21days ultimatum over the total neglect of the dilapidated Itu/ Odukpani Highway linking Akwa Ibom and Cross River State.

The ultimatum issued by NDAF national executive after the inauguration of its Cross River State chapter and copied the relevant authorities, said failure to meet up with their demand of total rehabilitation of the road, at the expiration of the ultimatum, the group would have no option than to shutdown the road.

The statement reads in parts, "The deplorable condition of the failed Itu-Calabar road in the Niger Delta has provoked the reaction of the Niger Delta Activists Forum. Angered about the seeming insensitivity and apparent indifference of the government and relevant agencies, including the state governments of Akwa Ibom and Cross River State; the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

" NDAF has therefore issued a 21-day definite ultimatum to all those governments and MCA's mentioned to swiftly engage in a complete redesign and reconstruction of the failed road. In the interim, relevant agencies must put some palliative measures on the road.

"Failure to heed to this ultimatum and demand will be construed by NDAF and the people of region as direct demonstration of neglect and abandonment. The people may consequently shut down the already failed road to save their lives".
