By Uchino Amatey

The Executive Chairman, Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CR-SUBEB) Dr, Stephen Odey said the Board will intensify monitoring and super vision of schools across the State.

The Board Chairman who made this known during the state-wide monitoring of projects and schools, stated that, the exercise was important to checkmate the activities of staff and ensure that contractors are executing jobs based on specification and jobs are completed within the alloted time.

While visiting some schools in Bekwarra LGA, Dr Odey expressed his disappointment with the poor attitude of teachers towards their responsibilities.

He ordered the immediate removal of head teachers and deputies of St Augustine primary school Ukpa, Holy Child Convent school, Ukpa and St Anthony primary school Uwapu, where upon the Board Chairman's arrival at 7.40 am and 8.10 am no teachers were found in the premises.

Pupils of the above mentioned schools were seen roaming about the school compound while waiting on their teachers.

The Board Chairman was however impressed with the teachers and pupils of St Stephen's primary school Abube, Bekwarra LGA, where all teachers were present and classes were on-going as at the time of his visit.

Project sites visited include; Community Primary School, Ofu-kpuru Afaa, Bekwarra LGA where a newly constructed six classroom block with offices has been completed.

Others include; Community Primary School, Bebuagba Kakum, Obudu LGA, newly completed water facility and UBEC Model Junior Secondary School, Abachor, Yala LGA where there is an on-going construction of a hostel
