Ayade bows to pressure prepares to swear in Justice Akon

Ayade and Justice Akon Ikpeme

There are strong indications that the Governor of Cross River State, Sen Prof. Ben Ayade, has finally succumbed to pressure and will now appoint Justice Akon Ikpeme as the state acting Chief Judge.

Recall that TDN had reported there were plots by the state Government to swear in as chief judge for the state, a man deemed not qualified for the office by virtue of the provision of Section 271 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This act had raised a lot of dust with several Nigerians speaking against it. Today, according to a Press Statement signed by Mr. Christian Ita, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, it seems the governor has made a U-Turn and will be swearing in Justice Akon Ikpeme as the acting Chief Judge.

The statement reads  below:

Ayade swears in Justice Akon Ikpeme as acting CJ tomorrow

Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Sir Ben Ayade will tomorrow, Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019, swear in Justice Akon Ikpeme as the acting Chief Judge of the state.

Venue: State Executive Council Chambers, Governor's Office, Calabar.
