Breaking: Prince Otu's ally decamps to PDP, says APC is stagnant in C'River

Ekpenyong Akiba

Any young man with a political future has no business with APC

Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba, a close associate of Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, a one time National Assembly member representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District in the Red Chambers and Hon. Bassey Akiba, APC National Assembly candidate in the just concluded General elections and one time House of Assembly member representing Odukpani in the Cross River State House of Assembly, has announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State. TDN can authoritatively report.

Akiba, who made this known in an exclusive interview with TDN, in Calabar, said that the decision to leave the party was a difficult one to make considering his affinity with senator Prince Bassey Otu and a few others in the party whom he described as purposeful leaders, but he was left with no choice than to take a walk and be part of a moving line, seeing that APC has today become stagnant in Cross River State.

The Odukpani born legal adviser of APC who informed that he was leaving the party for PDP said he wasn't decamping for personal or selfish interests rather for the good of his community since the party can't afford a smooth platform for him to serve his community via an elective position.

"I would have continued to manage APC because of my relationships with the top ranks of the party, were it to be for personal gains but community service beckons and APC cannot avail a smooth platform to attempt the election with pending matters in court, faction, wrong appointments etc". He said.

Akiba who before his defection was the APC Councillorship candidate in his ward added that his leaving the party heralds a mass exodus of young persons from the party as over 60% of his ward executives are already out of the party, stating that hundreds of young person both in his ward and at the local government level will soon be moving.

"...hundreds also left when I left including party leaders, ward and local government level some other ward Councillorship Candidates and a few chapter officers and 60 percent of my Ward Exco my Ally's across the state have either moved or are moving... It's a movement". He revealed.

According to Akiba what informed his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress are as follows:

1. Unending faction in APC Cross river state thereby leading to the sale of forms for local government elections by two excos,

2. Imposition of chapter officials who never contested elections as chapter officers,

 3. Exploitation of aspirants who had earlier paid for their forms and emerged through primaries as candidates,

4. Poor reward system :appointments given to the highest payman, Most of the leaders are only concern about themselves and family...

5. Multiple leadership structures across the state ...

6.No meeting whatever to thinker a direction

7. Majority of the candidates have either withdrawn  out  of disappointment or other responsibilities no steps taken for replacement

8. Leaders who would have added value to the party are either witchunted ,sidelined or strongly opposed out of jealousy and envy

9. Failure of the party to learn her lesson after the 2019 elections and litigation experience

10.Lack of team spirit amongst most party Men. Rather what we have is betrayal, sycophancy, Insults and abuse of privileges etc.

Akiba opined that "Any young man that have a political future have no business in APC, stating that he is currently consulting for the councillorship ticket under the platform of the PDP, adding that APC will limit his potentials and opportunities just as the party threw away its opportunity to take over the state in 2019 due to greed and personal angradiesment.

"I am currently consulting for the councillorship ticket under the platform of the PDP where when you win you are majority, I want to contribute my quota in my local government and state APC as it stands will limit my potential and opportunity. It is unfortunate am saying this but it's the bitter truth after all political parties are vehicles we're only drivers or sometimes passengers in this case I have chosen to join a 2020 model of a Mercedes Benz and that will drive us to our preferred destination.

"Cross River is a PDP state, APC threw away her opportunity in 2019, I therefore, call on all positively spirited youths in APC to join PDP so we can contribute in different measures to the ongoing programs of His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade's led administration in Cross River whom we'll all agree is youth conscious.

I wish all the positive thinkers of my former party the very best, God bless Cross River". He concluded.

When contacted, the State Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, Mr. Bassey Ita confirmed that Ekpenyong Akiba had left the fold but yet to communicate to the party officially.
