INEC issues Certificate of Return to Davis Etta after slamming Iwara in Abi rerun

Davis Etta receives Certificate of Returns from INEC

Hon. Davis Etta of Abi State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly has Friday, 30th January, received his certificate of return from Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja.

This came through after, Dr. Davis Etta of the People's Democratic Party, PDP on Saturday, 25th January 2020 again in a unanimous and widely celebrated victory flawed Hon. Iwara Inah of the All Progressives Congress in the Abi state house rerun elections slated for 15 polling Units of the local government area. According to the result announced by INEC, Etta of the PDP pulled an aggregate vote of 13349 while Iwara of the APC got 8797 votes.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had last year March after the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state declared Davis Etta of the People's Democratic Party, PDP winner of the Abi State House, but his closest rival Hon. Iwara Inah of the All Progressives Congress, APC challenged the victory in court and the appeal court upheld the verdict of the tribunal after Dr. Davis had challenged it at the upper court.
The court in his judgment ordered a rerun Election in 15 polling units where violence were perceived to have occurred.

In his response to the verdict, Etta had called on constituents to be calm stating that the verdict was only a means of permanently sealing his victory while amplifying the United voice of the people.

In a related development, Etta had felicitated his constituents immediately after the rerun in Abi, according to a press release made available to our newsroom the elated lawmaker said he gives all glory to God for ensuring he his victory was reaffirmed and thanked his constituents who had been very supportive all through the entire process.

His statement reads in full:

Thank you for further amplifying your voice at the polls, Together we can build Abi

I want to sincerely thank God for the victory we collectively secured during the rerun elections in the 15 polling units where previous elections of March 2019 were canceled.

Permit me to state categorically that My victory at the poll during the recently conducted rerun Election, further validates the voice and the will of the people of Abi Local Government Area as a constituency. And as such my victory is the victory of the people, of which I owe gratitude to the good people of Abi who stood by me from inception till this present time.

Just like I said, immediately after the court verdict which nullified my elections last year, calling for a rerun in some areas where electoral violence occurred. "The court actually gave us the opportunity to permanently seal our collective victory and amplify our voice," and that is exactly what we have done. The people have indeed spoken and God has sealed our victory.

I will still emphasize that my legislative agenda for Abi is on the tripod stand of Peace, Community Development and Human Capacity Building. I therefore call on all Abi sons and daughters across party affiliations, communities, languages, profession or economic/social class etc to please join hands with me as we continue to achieve our legislative agenda.

As we all know, Abi is a vast land of agricultural opportunities, and we must be ready to tap into it, I am inviting us to shun violence, cultism and wars (communal clash), let's embrace peace and development. In this era of green money, let's tap into the various opportunities and develop our economy both as a government and as individuals.

Going forward, I am ready to work with any community, groups, NGOs, organizations etc to see that peace is restored in Abi, to see that our young men are adequately empowered with sustainable means of livelihood and our communities begin to experience developments.

Once again, as you all know, I run an open door policy, you can access me for suggestions, concerns and contributions that will take our local government forward.

Thank you all for your support.

Hon. (Dr.) Davis Etta, Member-elect representing Abi in the Cross River State House of Assembly
