Just In: INEC cancels rerun Elections in Abi. See reason

According to a press statement released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and published in its official Twitter handle, the commission has cancelled the rerun elections that was to hold in the reverian area of Afafanyi/Igonigoni council ward of Abi Local Government Area. 

The statement said the cancelation is due to aduction of the supervisory Presiding Officer, SPO and both sensitive and nonsensitive materials which include 5, 616 ballot papers, smart card readers, result sheets, etc. The marterial were meant for 8 polling units in the council ward. 

"Elections were not conducted in 8 (eight) polling units of the riverian area, Afafanyi/Igonigoni ward due to kidnap of Supervisory Presiding Officer, SPO and hijack of election material by gunmen....

" However, the Commission has canceled election in the Afafanyi/Igonigoni ward consisting of eight polling units and 5, 616 registered voters, due to the volience abduction of the SPO, ballot papers, result sheets and smart card readers. INEC does not reward impunity/Voilence". The statement reads in parts. 

However the commission in its press statement reports that the abducted staff has regained fredoom in perfect condition with no lost of life. 

Recall that aside from the rerun election in Ekureku 1&2 to decide the representative of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, the court of appeal also called for a rerun elections to decide who represent Abi state Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly. The rerun was meant for 15 polling Units with majority domiciled in Afafanyi/Igonigoni ward and few scattered in Ekureku and other wards. 

The said election is between Dr. Davies Etta of the People's Democratic Party and Iwara Inah of the All Progressives Congress.
