My people have testified of the Hospitality of the Efiks - Oba of Benin

Members of Edo community resident in Cross River State have testified of the hospitable nature of the Efiks and Cross Riverians as a whole. TDN can authoritatively report. 

This was made known by the visiting Oba of Benin His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, while on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Cross River State, Sir, Prof. Benedict Ayade. 

The Grand Patriarch, who requested from the governor the establishment a memorial centre and a Benin house within the state. Said, "the memorial centre will serve as a sign of respect to my great grand father and ancestor who was banished but received in the ancient city of Calabar."

Speaking further, on the need for the Benin house, the traditional ruler said, "the people of Benin resident in Cross River State have spoken of the hospitality of Cross Riverians, the peace and love they enjoy, which has made them see Cross River as a second home. I will therefore like to see a consolidated relationship between these two sister states, and most importantly a roof over the heads of my people". 

Reports has it that, the Governor, in his response, granted the monarch his request with a promise to ensure the memorial centre and a Benin house sees the light of the day. 

It should be recalled that the Oba is on a "Thank You" Visit to the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V Treaty King, Natural Ruler, Grand Patriarch of the Efiks and Defender of the Faith. The weekend long visit began on Friday with the Oba's Arrival, and a reception at the Palace of the Obong of Calabar on Saturday with a Royal Banquet holding on Sunday.
