Oba of Benin arrives Calabar as Obong receives him tomorrow at the Palace

It was exactly 6:53 pm Friday, evening when the airliner conveying His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin and his royal contingent touched the soil of Calabar, capital city of Cross River State ahead of the proposed historic visit to the Obong of Calabar. 

According to the intenary, His Eminence

Treaty King, Natural Ruler, Grand Patriarch of the Efiks and Defender of the Faith will receive the Oba in his Palace tomorrow, Saturday, 11th January 2020 morning by 10am. 

It should be recalled that TDN had Thursday reported that, the essence of the visit is part of the Oba's appreciation tour and the show of senergy between the two cultures.

According to a letter titled Thank You Tour, and dated 30th December 2019 with reference number BTC.A268/VOL.OX.253, the advance team of the Oba will arrive on Wednesday 8th January, the Oba of Benin on 10th January and depart Monday 13th January after meeting with His Excellency the Executive Governor of Cross River where he will meet with Obong of Calabar, and Edo sons and daughters. 

According to Etubom Eyo Effiom Henshaw the Assistant Secretary of the Etubom Council of the Obong of Calabar 'the purpose of the visit is a thank you visit. Thank you visit because we have had a relationship that dates back to three hundred (300) years.

'When the Ewuare II was corronoted the Oba of Benin in 2016 the Obong of Calabar was present. I was also there to witness the corronotion. He had done this to the president, done a similar thing to the Sultan of Sokoto. So, he's now coming to South South. Then they will use the opportunity to fine tune their royalties.'

The Oba of Benin will use the opportunity to meet with Sons and daughters of Edo State before leaving on Monday. The full itinerary of this visit will be published subsequently. 

The Obong of Calabar and Oba of Benin are designated first class chiefs being Natural Rulers and Treaty Kings which are not a creation of politics.
