Ebo Benard is our flag bearer, leaders of Abo ward in Boki LGA insist

Following the injustices, imposition of candidates and marginalization of qualified persons and blocs and wards, that characterized the recently conducted consensus primary elections of the People's Democratic Party in preparation for the Local Government elections slated for next month, several party faithfuls across the wards and local government areas in Cross River State have expressed disappointment, grievance and displeasure with the entire process.

Recall that there have been series of protests across the state with typical reference to Yala, Yakurr, Bakassi, Abi, etc and many other wards across the state. The bone of contention in most of these protests all over the state is imposition of candidates, the people believe they should be allowed to select or elect their leaders not some selected few who may have been bribed or influenced by perceived interest of the governor to select unpopular candidates to represent them.

In like manner, there seems to be a wide range rejection of perceived imposition of a councillorship candidate on the people of Abo ward in Boki local government area.

According to reports reaching TDN, the leadership of the ward had followed the instructions of the leader of the party in the state, who is the governor, His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade and had in obedience conducted a consensus primary election on four persons who indicted interest to represent the ward. Having considered several factors such as zoning and distribution of political appointments and elective offices across the ward, the leaders of the party in the ward unanimously selected one Ebu Benard Ebu as the party's flag bear for the 2020 local government elections.

My source hinted that recent moves indicates that some persons within the ward are trying to use the governor's name to reverse what elders and members of the party had unanimously sat to agree and endorse, by bringing up one Pius Osang as the party's flag bearer.

"it is on this note that we the leaders of the party in the ward decided to put up this communique to insist and tell the whole world that we already have a flag bearer in the person Ebu Benard and we shall stand by him." He informed.

" We don't need a representative who does not know his village, someone who hardly comes home, nor associate with people back home, how does he want to now represent a people you don't know and relate with, it not fair and it's totally not acceptable, if the governor so love him, let him be given an appointment and not to force him on a people he doesn't even know their plight". The source insisted.

According to a letter addressed to the chapter Chairman of the party, leaders of Abo ward expressed their support to stand on the unanimous agreement of 8th of December 2019.
The letter reads in part

"we the undersigned leaders of Abo ward of the PDP in Boki LGA after due consideration and consultations with all stakeholders in the ward hereby resolves has follows:

1. That the position for Councillorship in Abo ward in the 2019/2020 LG polls, be zoned to Abo clan particularly Abo Outland.

2. That four Aspirants indicated interest for the is position, they include, Ebu Benard Ebu, Leo Abang, Pius Osong and Martin Ebu

3. That the four aspirants were thoroughly screened by the leadership of the party in the ward.

4. That Mr. Ebu Benard was cleared and nominated as the party's flag bearer for Abo in the forthcoming election.

5. That this decision was unanimously taken on the 8th of December 2019 at Orimekpang Ochor in Abo ward.

Consequently the letter was signed by leaders of the party in Abo ward.

When contacted, Mr. Pius Usang, the candidate alleged to be imposed with the governor's name, he informed TDN that all has been taken under control as the party will be conducting her screening on Monday.
