Ayade’s Judicial Somersault: C'River APC express concerns

ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS CROSS RIVER STATE

AYADE'S JUDICIAL SOMERSAULT
BEING A PRESS RELEASE ON THE NON-CONFIRMATION OF HON. JUSTICE AKON BASSEY IKPEME AS THE CHIEF JUDGE OF CROSS RIVER STATE

Monday, 2nd March, 2020 will go down in the history of Cross River State
Judiciary and indeed the entire State as a "DARK MONDAY" where integrity, intelligence, diligence, competence, honesty, experience and dignity was sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity, pettiness, ethnicity, nepotism and tribalism.

Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly again exposed their
collective incapacity (with due apologies/respects to the very few able
hands in the house), allegedly playing the script of our Inept Governor by not confirming Honourable Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the substantive
Chief Judge of Cross River State, giving a very petty, pedestrian, uninformed, non-academic, ridiculous, archaic, prependous and strange reason of her not being a citizen of Cross River State.
Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme is from Akwa Ibom, our sister state by
birth and a Cross Riverian by marriage. She is happily married for over
thirty four (34) years to Professor Bassey Ikpeme, a renowned Consultant
Medical Doctor at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH),
Calabar, an indigene of Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River
State.

By direct application and/or combined effect of Chapter III 26(1)C, III 26(2)a of Nigeria Constitution (1999), Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme is a citizen of Cross River State, simplicita. She has served dedicatedly for over three decades and unarguably the most qualified to be the Chief Judge of Cross River State.
Cross River State is indeed paying the price for having mediocres and those with infantile excitement running the affairs of the state.

You will recall the juvenile creation of the Ministries of Aviation, Solid Mineral, Foreign Affairs, etc Areas of Governance that are under the exclusive legislative list, Second Schedule Part I of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. How do we expect anything reasonable from a government whose pass time is to continuously breach the
provisions of the Nigerian Constitution which the Governor took an Oath to uphold.

The decision of the State House of Assembly not to confirm Hon. Justice
Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the substantive Chief Judge of Cross River State, after been cleared by the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) is a negation of justice, transparency, the rule of law and the constitution.

The wise counsels from the likes of Hon. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey, Hon. Effa Esua Effiwatt, Hon. Itam Abang, Hon. Francis Asuquo, etc could still not make reasons
take centre stage in the debate for her confirmation.

We call on the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) not to have anything to do with this illegality. The Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) should prevail on Governor Ben Ayade to respect the sanctity of the NJC resolution and swear Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the Substantive Chief Judge of Cross River State without further delay or antics.

Let the judicial be seen continually as the hope of the common man.

Thank you

Signed
Sir John Ochala
State Chairman,
All Progressives Congress Cross River State
