The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong has hailed the state governor's directives for the immediate shutdown of the all borders (both national and international) leading to the state.

The amiable DG who said governor Ayade's decision was timely and the most effective approach in the fight against Covid -19 pandemic, made this known while addressing newsmen when the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu led the state Covid -19 Response Taskforce  to Calabar-Itu bridge, (a major entry point into the state), to ensure a complete lock down of the border between Cross River State and Akwa Ibom states as directed by the governor was enforced to curb the spread of the dreaded novel Coronavirus pandemic.

Ekpenyong noted that the radical step was necessary because of the natural recalcitrant nature of human beings. Explaining further she said, several media advocacy and sensitisation were already on going via conventional and social media. She disclosed that enforcing the governor's order was the only way the borders will be shutdown.

Speaking earlier on, the honourable commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu who is the arrow head in the fight against Covid -19 in the state, informed that they were are the state borders to give the governor's order 100% enforcement without compromise.

Dr. Edu maintained that the state hadn't recorded any case as at 30th March 2020. "we are doing everything possible to see that we protect our people and our state. Akwa Ibom state may not have closed their borders but for us our borders would remain close and no one would be allowed into the state through our borders in whatever disguise." she said.

Dr. Edu commended the security outfits who are part of the Taskforce for their support. "This is the time to maintain social distancing because the fight is not against you or me but the fight is against a common enemy for our collective interest."She concluded.
