Duke writes C'river Police CP seeks prosecution of alleged killer of brother

A one time Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly and Chairman of Cross River State Sports commission, Chief Orok Otuekong Duke has sent a heartfelt letter to the Cross River Commissioner Of police, seeking proper investigation and possible prosecution of one Dr. Offiong Okoho whose alleged carelessness is said to have led to the death of his elder brother, Otu Otu Duke.

According to a letter dated 6th May, 2020 and addressed to the commissioner of Police, Cross River State, Duke narrated the incidences that led to the death of his late brother. He also noted that nobody is doing anything about Dr Offiong Okoho, who has a history of Professional Misdemeanour and Malpractice and may have returned to another Medical Establishment to continue to wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims.

The letter to the police reads in full:

May 6, 2020
The Commissioner of Police,
Cross River State,
Diamond Hill,
Calabar.

Report of wrongful death of Prince Otu Otu Duke, SA to Governor on Waste Management by Dr Offiong Okoho, (Phone number: 08038913623) Medical Director of Covenant Clinic and Maternity, 22 Ekpo Eyo street off Uwanse street Calabar South LGA.

The above issue refers.

I request for an Investigation to be carried out over the death of my brother and SA to Governor Ayade on Waste Management, Prince Otu Otu Duke. The kernel of the matter is as follows:

A) My late brother had reported a case of Hernia to Dr Charles Iwara (Phone number: 0803415155) in his Clinic at Nsa Ewa street, Calabar South LGA); Dr Iwara had subsequently referred my brother to Dr Offiong Okoho in Covenant Clinic (an illegal, Unapproved and Unregistered Medical Place).

B) Subsequently, Dr Offiong had ''Operated'' upon my brother and mismanaged his medical condition in his illegal clinic(BP was over 200 and Sugar in blood 19.2) and by the time that my brother, who had fallen into a coma was evacuated and taken to Asi Ukpo Medical Centre for proper medical treatment, he died on 3rd April 2020. (Death Certificate and Medical Reports are attached for your perusal).

C) The Nigerian Medical Association, CRS Branch, had reacted by declaring the Covenant Clinic, an illegal Medical Facility, while the Cross River State Government, through the CRS Ministry of Health, had sealed off the building.

D) But nobody is doing anything about Dr Offiong Okoho, who has a history of Professional Misdemeanour and Malpractice and may have returned to another Medical Establishment to continue to wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims.

With his past infractions of extant Laws and recent altercations with the Police, I suspect that he may have moved on to perpetrate and perpetuate further illegal acts in our Community. (Some Documents of Dr Offiong Okoho Unprofessional Antecedents in our Community are hereby attached for ease of reference)

I humbly request for you to carry out a thorough Investigation and to bring to book all the culprits, as the case may be, please.

I remain Yours – in – Community Service

Rt. Hon. (Chief) Orok Otu Duke JP
Brother
