AWKA: The Government of Anambra state has restated its support to promote inclusion of persons with disability as a component in national policies and programmes while protecting their right and dignity.

The Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano  stated this yesterday while inaugurating the State Disability COVID-19 Response Team.

Addressing the disability constituency at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center in Awka, the Governor represented by the Special Adviser on Disability Matters Barr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie said that the relaxation of the lockdown measures in the state does not mean a triumph over the deadly virus.

He reaffirmed that the fight against the pandemic will be intensified with recommended measures keeping in mind the economic and social wellbeing of its citizenry.

The Governor who described persons with disability as the most vulnerable group in this pandemic promised that his administration will always support them at all times while calling on the disability community to heed to  state government directives  on  COVID-19 and that of Wold Health Organization (WHO).

"The visually impaired will need someone to lead them around, the deaf will need an interpreter, the physically challenged will need someone to push the wheel chair. The social distancing that is right now the only solution against the spread of the virus presents a big challenge to persons with disability."
