Group educate girls on Menstrual Hygiene Management

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association in collaboration with Citizens Support Initiative has embarked on a one day sensitazation workshop on Menstrual Hygiene Management.

Addressing young girls at Oye Market in Umuawulu Community, Awka South LGA and Ugbene, Awka North LGA, Anambra State, the  Co-Founder Citizens Support Initiative, Miss Nwazor Nkiruka Obianuju said that menstruation was not an abomination but a process every women go through in life. She maintained that the aim of the sensitisation was to educate girls in rural communities and expose them to resiquite knowledge on proper menstrual hygiene.

"Girls should be educated enough to know what to do during menstration and also take care of themselves better during this pandemic." She noted.

She however advised parents to be bold enough to educate girls on sex education.

The Vice President General of Ugbene, Awka North LGA Mr. Sampson Ojo who expressed delight over the seminar carried out by the organisations, said it was the first time such was held in his community.

Speaking further, Mr. Ojo advised girls and young women to use approved sanitary kits as recommended by health practitioners during menstration rather than use clothes, foam or unhygienic sanitary kits while on their menses.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Miss Igwebuonu Edith Eberechukwu and Miss Esther Ndubisi from Ugbenu, thanked the converners of the event, acknowledging that they have been better exposed to Proper Menstrual Hygiene practice especially during the pandemic.

Members of the organisations were earlier received by the Traditional Ruler of Unmuawulu Community in Awka South LGA, Anambra State by Igwe Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu.

High point of the sensitisation was lectures on menstrual hygiene management, sex education and donation of free hygenic sanitary kits.
