#EndRape: Group advocate for stiffer penalties for offenders

....Commissioner advises enrolment of girl child into Taekwondo

AWKAAs the world intensifies effort to end rape, Office of the  Senior  Special  Assistant to Anambra State Governor on Broadcasting in collaboration with other women organizations held a peaceful campaign against rape in Awka the state capital. 

The women who were clad in black attire carried placards with different inscriptions appealing for an end to rape.

Speaking at what they tagged "Anambra Walk Against Rape", the convener, Miss Ify Aronu Okafor noted with dismay the rate of violence against girls and women in the society. She said rape was more than a pandemic as it was happening everywhere around the world thus the need for sensitization.

" No is No...No girl, boy, woman or man deserves to be raped as it was inhuman and barbaric and must not continue". She expressed. 

The SSA, therefore, stressed the need to quickly address the menace through stiffer penalties to save the lives of women and children.

Similarly, the State  Legal Adviser of The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Barr. Ifeoma Chijioke in her remarks appealed to all sundry involved in rape to put an end it. According to her, rape was a terrible crime against God and humanity which has no justification.

She however advised parents to enroll their girl child to acquire skills in Karate and Taekwondo for self-defense.

Also, in her address the State Commissioner of Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Barr. Helen Obi maintained that there was no justifiable reason for a woman to be raped.

According to her, there were myths, against women on the issue of rape such as what they wear, what they do to attract men, etc.

The commissioner speaking further said such myths were anachronistic and do not hold forth within the millennium. She however called for justice for rape victims in accordance with the law.
