Anambra Lawmakers extol Obiano's commitment in changing lives of Rural women

AWKA Members of the Anambra state House of Assembly representing Awka South I and II state Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor and Mr. Chukwuka  Okoye extolled the philanthropic efforts of the wife of the Governor, Dr .Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano and the selflessness with which she has changed the lives of many in the state. 

The Lawmakers made this known yesterday in Anambra when Mrs. Obiano through her Foundation, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), visited the Akwa South I and  II in her annual state wide tour to empower indigents in the communities. 

Speaking at the Awka South Local Area Headquarters where the tour commenced, Mrs. Obiano said she had to defile the Covid19 pandemic, and ensure the tour holds this year so more women could be empower women at the grassroots, maintaining that COVID-19 has brought in a new normal and strict adherence to its precautions must be maintained. 

The first Lady, in her message cautioned the people to remain conscious of the danger of corona virus and take its threat seriously by observing all necessary protocols like observing basic hygiene and social distancing always even as they pursue their daily needs. 

"When you wear your face mask, please wear it properly and not on your jaw. That way the mask will not be contaminated before you put it back on. Above all, continue to wash your hands regularly." She said

Mrs. Obiano also appealed to parents to provide their children with facemasks, bottles of water, hand sanitizers before sending them to school.

Speaking on the theme : "Sustaining the Fight Against Gender Based Violence" Mrs. Obiano advocated that gender -based violence should be curbed for unity to be achieved in communities and at all levels.

However, the Governor's Wife popularly known as Osodieme while restating her continuous commitment towards empowering indigent women through her NGO commended the good women of Awka South for the warm reception accorded her.

The Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue who was present at the event noted that the tour was an affirmation of the commitment of the wife of the Governor to the welfare of women, and the less privileged, thanking raised her for defying obvious odds to make the tour in order to empower the less privileged in Awka South.

Earlier in his remark, Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. Leo Nwuba, commended Mrs. Obiano for her doggedness in humanitarian services, adding that her kindness has added a lot to the success of the present administration in the State. 

The Governor's wife used the occasion to distribute bags of rice, cash gifts and educational materials to 495 less privileged women and school children from the nine communities that make up the local government area. 

High point of the occasion was presentation of trophy won by Awka South LGA during the 2020 Mother's Summit to the Wife of the Governor.

Dignitaries present at the event were: Traditional Rulers of the nine communities in Awka, the Principal Secretary to the Governor Sir Willie Nwokoye,  Special Adviser to the Governor on Indigenous Medicine Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, Chief Ben Obi among others.

The annual Tour of LGAs is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs for the empowerment of selected women groups and less privileged persons in the communities aimed at empowering indigent women at the grassroots through Mrs. Obiano's NGO - Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE).
