Calabar Vandalization: Municipal Youths to present communiqué and activate community policing

As the #EndSARS protest takes a new turn with hoodlums hijacking the process to cause mayhem, while looting and destroying both private and public properties became the order of the day, a coalition of Ethnic Youth Leaders of Calabar Municipality have risen to the occasion to restore normalcy in the state through the activation of community policing and presentation of a communiqué.

Speaking in Calabar, during an emergency meeting called by the group known as Calabar Municipality Ethnic Youth Leaders Assembly, Mr. Eta Imona, convener of the meeting, noted the need to restore normalcy and bring back Calabar to where and what it used to be. Imona stated that the essence of the #EndSARS protest has been lost in the ongoing looting and vandalization of properties, he therefore called on the various Ethnic Youth Leaders to act swiftly and ensure the process is taken back.

He said every ethnic youth leaders should activate community policing and serious vigilante in all the communities in Calabar Municipality for effective checks, while they work towards driving home and sustaining the gains of the #EndSARS movement.

"Having xrayed the whole menace by our fellow youths, women and children we are left with no choice than to say such acts anti-development, and inhuman."

"We believe this wasn't the aim of the #Endsars protest, the protest was rather aimed at giving our youths a voice and to also bring the government to hear and know what our problems and wishes are." Imona noted.

The group have also called on youths in Calabar to sheath their sword while they give government the chance to begin the implementation of their demands. Stating that some of the demands needs time and youth involvement while others are immediate, therefore the youth should refrain from destruction and embrace negotiation.

The group said youths in Cross River State should rather start thinking of who will best protect their interests to represent them in the various panels and processes that will be set up to meet the demands of the #EndSARS protesters.

While sympathizing with those who had lost their lives, goods, and properties in the protest and vandalization, Calabar municipality Ethnic Youth Leaders Assembly, urged youths to return items looted to avoid the full rod of the government and desist total from further looting, stating that it will continue to work on a communiqué that will see to how the cry of the masses would reach the Government.
