More kidnappings in Calabar amid Operation Akpakwu

Information reaching our newsroom has it that at least 3 persons have been kidnapped in Calabar this week.

According to multiple sources, a senior Police officer, a Medical Doctor and a Bolt driver may all have been kidnapped at different locations and time in Calabar.

The Police officer whose rank is still confusing, is said be an Assistant Commissioner of Police while others  say he is a Deputy Superintendent of Police. He is said to be an Igbo man who went to visit his girlfriend around Etval Hotel in Calabar. He was accosted by gunmen as soon as he stepped out of the girl's house attempting to get into his Car. The gunmen who shot sporadically in the air carted away with him and his Spider car.

In another development, a Medical Doctor, Vincent Uhegbu who is also the general overseer of Kingdom Citizens Heritage Assembly, a church located in satellite town was kidnapped in his house along Jonathan bypass.

In a similar event, a yet to be confirmed case of kidnap of a Bolt Driver near Hair Masters Barbing saloon along Goldie street by Mayne Avenue has also been reported.

Confirming the kidnap cases the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbe who spoke with our correspondent on phone said the kidnap cases of Police Officer and that of the Medical Doctor have been reported as investigations have started while she's yet to confirm the kidnap of the bolt driver as no report have been made as at the time of the call.

It will be recalled that due to the rising kidnap cases and sundry crimes in the state, the government of Cross River State had launched an anti-kidnap/crime squad code named " Operation Akpakwu" with the aim of facing out kidnappers and sundry Criminals.

But surprisingly, right under their nose the same crimes they were commissioned to combat are still happening unchecked.
