Ayade set to swear-in Akon Ikpeme as C'River Chief Judge

According to an official statement signed by the secretary to the Cross River State Government, Barr. Mrs. Tina Banko, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River is now set to swear into office, Justice Akon Ikpeme as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.

The report informs that the event will take place on Monday 8th Feb, 2021 in the Executive council Chambers, Governor's office, Calabar by 9: am. The Hon Speaker and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Members of the state Executive Council and the Judiciary have been invited to witness the event.


The swearing in of Justice Akon Ikpeme comes in after the state has stayed for over 439 days without a substantive Chief Judge after Justice Michael Edem's retirement as the state Chief Judge. There had been several back and forth, with Justice Maurice Eneji and Justice Effiom Eyo-Ita acting as the state CJ fora total period of 9 months before Justice Akon Ikpeme was finally confirmed by the Cross River State House of Assembly as a substantive Chief Judge for the state.

His Excellency, Senator Prof Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State will on Monday 8th Feb, 2021 in the Executive council Chambers,Governor's office, Calabar, swear in Hon Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of Cross River State. This follows the confirmation of her nomination by the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Accordingly the Hon Speaker and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Members of the state Executive Council and the Judiciary are cordially invited to attend the event.

All are kindly requested to be seated by 9.00a.m prompt before the arrival of His Excellency the Governor.
