Chief Akiba celebrates birthday with school pupils, empowers community youth

Birthdays for most people is a time to celebrate achievements while appreciating God for the gift of life. Many have abused this day with drinking to stupor while carrying out several illicit act. But for Chief Akiba Ekpenyong who was born on a day the world had set aside to celebrate love - the Saint Valentine's day, he believes his birthday should actually be a day where smiles are seen on the faces of the downtrodden and less privileged. To this end, he began a five year journey of not only putting smiles on people's faces but empowering them with a life support skill on every of his birthdays.

It was based on this backdrop that the Chief Press Secretary of Odupkani Local Government Area, Chief Akiba Ekpenyong whose birthday falls on the 14th of February decided to celebrate this year's edition of his natal day with pupils of Presbyterian Primary School Akpap Okoyong while he puts smiles the faces of the children and their teacher.

The event which took place at PCN Primary School, Akpap-Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government Area featured cutting of birthday Cake with the teachers and pupils of the school, distribution of exercise books, pen, pencils, erasers, Bible, literature textbooks, footballs, flags, etc to the school and teachers. 

Akiba also used the opportunity to hold a private meeting with teachers of the school where he advised them on the need to improve on their teaching methods to meet up internationally acceptable best practices.

Earlier on, speaking with the head teacher of PCN primary school, Chief Akiba restated his commitment to ensure one youth from Odukpani is empowered with a life sustaining skill yearly as he marks he birthdays. He informed that his actions emanates from his struggling days as a young man, having been favored by God and currently selected by the Local Government Chairman as Chief Press Secretary, he deems it fit to reciprocate God's love on him to others. 
Aside the exercise books and other writing materials Akiba donated to pupils and teachers of the school, he also made a donation of the both the state and national flag while promising to assist the school with poles to hang the flags. 

In her response, the head teacher of PCN Primary School, Mrs. Arit Effiom commended the celebrant for thinking about his Community. She stated that available record in the school shows that he is a regular visitor to the school and believe in his honest life. In like manner, staff and pupils who spoke with TDN expressed gratitude to the celebrant for giving the children the real birthday celebration because according to one of them Mr Mbrukem Eyo, some of the children have never featured in a birthday celebration but today, they're part of it. He prayed God's blessings on the celebrant.

To further prove to the world that he is grateful for the gift of life and the blessings of God in his life, Chief Akiba decided to, let your words and deeds breathe life into the nostrils of a native of Odot Uyi, Master Daniel Nyong. In his words "I am deliberately making this my life style by allowing my little successes be in direct proportion to the number of lives I must have touched for the better. In the next five years"

In line with this words Chief Akiba marked the second phase of his birthday by enrolling Master Daniel Nyong of Odot Uyi into a fashion/designing training which would last for three years. Master Daniel was lucky to be nominated by participants at the "Peace and Security summit" which was organised in December 2020 by Odukpani Youths Forum. The celebrant who was the lead speaker at the event had promised to train one person in a vocation of his/her choice with a specific criterion of someone who really had no one to support him/her. That was how Daniel Nyong was nominated. 

During the enrollment ceremony which involved payment of his training fees and signing of documents, Chief Akiba who was meeting with Master Daniel for the first time, advised him to shun cult activity, hard drugs, and other neferous activities but remain focus on what would put food on his table. 

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the induction ceremony, Daniel's guardian, Mrs Nyong who was moved to tears, thanked Chief Akiba Ekpenyong and described him as an Angel sent to help her nephew whom she described as an Orphan. 

Visitors and co-trainees at the fashion shop, advised the beneficiary to remain serious, honest, respectful and obey all rules governing the trade he is going into.

Daniel told TDN that he was Grateful to God for bringing a good man as Chief Akiba Ekpenyong his was as he promise to also reciprocate this gesture by assisting others who will be in need of assistance. 

Speaking with newsmen immediately after the entire event, Chief Akiba Ekpenyong revealed that the next community to benefit from his yearly benevolence will be Ekpene Ibiabong Eki in Odukpani Local Government Area.
He further stated that his motivation to embark on this gesture is due to the nature of the economy and his. He also appreciated friends, family and organizations who assisted him embark on the project. 

He informed them that two hundred customised exercise books were donated by EFIK LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION while others were purchased by him through support he got from people. He expressed his joy to Rev. Fr Emmanuel Bassey, Hon. (Mrs) Justina Edem, Mrs. Ekanem Eyo-Abasi, Mrs ImaAbasi Enobong, Mr Joseph Edet (Lashakara), Bar. Timothy Esu, Mr Eyo Akiba Etim, Mr Antigha Asuquo, Mr. Ecoma Eson, Mr Edwin Okon, Mrs Mary Akiba, Mr Bassey Okokon, Mr Ukorebi Essien for the support in ensuring that the event was successful.

Chief Akiba Ekpenyong didn't fail to appreciate his boss, the current Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Council for giving him the platform to serve as Chief Press Secretary.
