Anambra Guber: Traders, Professionals Clamour For Free and Fair Primary

Afam Aminu Chimezie | 24th May, 2023

ONITSHA- Traders in Anambra State are demanding for a level playing ground for all contestants in the forthcoming Party primary in Anambra State aimed at producing  flag bearers for various political parties in the November 6th Gubernatorial Election in the State.

Other groups of professionals have also joined in the agitation for a credible primary in the ruling party. They argued that what the State needed was a home-groomed leader that feels and knows the sufferings of the people, adding that the genesis of underdevelopment in the state could be attributed to imposition of non resident indigenes of Anambra State as Governor.

Mr. Boniface Ifejika, a trader at Eke Ekwulobia Market who spoke to our correspondent recently said that the problem of Governorship in Anambra State emanated from reckless party primary and imposition of candidates for Governorship Election in the State.

He stated that free and fair party primary in Anambra State would definitely usher in a candidate that would compete favourably with other candidates and warned that traders in the state would no longer be fooled to vote for a candidate who is arrogant and does not represent the majority wish of party members.

He, however, cautioned the ruling party in the state, APGA against manipulating the outcome of the forthcoming party primary in favour of a particular aspirant.

Another trader at Ogbaru Main Market and Chairman of the market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu in his opinion called for the support of any candidate who shares in the pains and sufferings of Anambra State traders who are merely striving to survive in their businesses.

Chief Ochiogu posited that what the State needed was a man who is well-grounded and close to the people and called on all the political parties to imbibe the spirit of fair play in the conduct of their primary.

An Onitsha based legal practitioner and former Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Aguata Branch, Mr.Iloegbune Okoye in a chat with our correspondent in Onitsha at The issue weekend advised political parties to toe the path of honour in the conduct of their party primary.

Mr. Okoye who is the Chairman, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo Foundation stressed the need for APGA and other political parties to conduct their primary with decorum so as not to jeopardize the chances of their Candidates in the main election.

The outspoken legal practitioner, however, urged potential voters to choose a business man as the next Governor of the state, adding that technocrats and professionals who had ruled the state in the past had failed until the advent of Mr. Peter Obi whom he described as a prudent manager of resources and astute business man.

He further canvassed for the choice of Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo,  a business man  and legislator  in the  National Assembly whom he noted had distinguished himself as a good manager of men and resources while he served as Anambra State Markets President-General.
