Nepotism, Bad Governance Cause of Insecurity in Nigeria - Cleric

Afam Aminu CHIMEZIE |13th May, 2021

ONITSHA- Nepotism, massive corruption coupled with insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians have been attributed as the major causes of the present insecurity witnessed in several parts of the country today.

General Overseer and Founder, Bible Base Assembly, Nkpor, Anambra State, Rev. Jerry Nwachukwu made the disclosure at the weekend while interacting with journalists at the Church premises.

Rev. Nwachukwu who expressed worry at the high level of insecurity in the country blamed the Federal Government for whatever insecurity the nation is currently experiencing, adding that the enthronement of nepotism in the appointment of people into sensitive positions in the country and wide spread corruption among public office holders in Nigeria in the midst of excruciating poverty and massive unemployment also contributed to the frustration which led some misguided citizens to seek any available means to survive.

While condemning violence and destruction of lives and property under any guise such as Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crimes, the cleric emphasised that the present administration had all the opportunity and resources to correct the mistakes of the past but, rather displayed incompetence in handling the situation.

He noted that the "divide and rule"mentality which he alleged was evident since the inception of the present administration in the country further gave citizens no hope of surviving under the "suffocating policies" of the APC led Federal Government.

Rev. Nwachukwu disclosed that President Buhari whom he said lacked the ability and competence to continue as  the President of the country in the midst of the senseless killings of citizens described the present government as the worst  since the history of Nigeria.

"Even under the Military Regime Nigeria never experienced the kind of insecurity, nepotism and poverty of citizens as we are doing today. The present administration has never shown maturity and impartiality while dealing with the the issue of Fulani Herdsmen rampage in several parts of the country."

"Is it not worrisome that the Federal Government through her legal instruments and power was fast to proscribe IPOB which had existed as a non violent separatist organization, while the rampaging Fulani Herdsmen who had been acclaimed by foreign powers as a terrorist organization with seeming Federal Government backing are yet to be sanctioned by the same government"

The furious cleric further warned that unless Nigerians bend on their knees and engage in solemn prayers to God the present insecurity in the country would be a child's play compared to that of the future.

The Pentecostal Pastor regretted that those who installed President Buhari as Nigeria's leader were not patriotic as Buhari's candidacy was borne out of selfishness by some Nigerian politicians.
