Empowerment: Mrs. Obianos trains and equip 300 women in Anambra

AWKA - Wife of the Anambra state governor, Dr. Mrs Ebelechuku Obiano through her pet project, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative has trained over 300 women in various skills across the state. 


Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mrs. Obiano who said the 300 trainees will be equipped with the various machines and tools needed to start up their business and be self reliant. The first lady also informed that this batch makes up the 12th batch of grandaunts her NGO have trained in support of her husband's administration with the aim of reducing crime. 


Mrs. Obiano added that since inception of CARE in August 2014, the NGO has graduated and empowered 5,500 indigent women, widows and youths from the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

The governor's however commended Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, individuals and organizations for partnering with her NGO in touching lives.

Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs Lady Ndidi Mezue who spoke at the event said admits COVID 19 Mrs. Obiano has empowered indigent people in various communities despite the fact election was fast approaching. 

She extol her NGO for its numerous role in complementing  the efforts of the government by empowering women to be self contingent.

The commissioner further promised that the ministry would continue to support the NGO and all other groups willing to contribute to the development of the state.


Earlier in his welcome address, the Program Coordinator and Deputy Press Secretary to the Governor Mr. Emeka Ozumba eulogized the Wife of the Governor for her passion in helping the destitute through CAFE.

"Despite the way our lives has been altered by COVID 19, Mrs. Obiano was determined in concluding the empowerment training which commenced in 2020 " he said.

Mr. Emeka Ozumba maintained that the program embarked by the NGO was a testament to Mrs. Onisno's commitment made over seven years ago.

Similarly, the Deputy Director Chike Okoli Center for Entrepreneurial Studies Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Professor Ngozi Ijeoma said the trainees were privileged to be taught by professors during their stay at they center.


She noted they were taught book keeping and proper records, safety measures and general studies.

The event which was held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka featured equipment distribution to the beneficiaries.

Equipment distributed were 85 Gas Cooker, 80 Sewing Machines, 60 Hair Dressing Equipment, 50 Soap Making Equipment, 15 laptops and 10 Bead Making Equipment and start up fund.
