Ebatex Emerges President of Akim Youths in Calabar

Youths of Akim Qua Clan in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State under the auspices of Council of Akim Youth Forum, CAYF had on Saturday, 21st August 2021 elected a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the organization. 

In an election that witnessed heavy turn out and adjudged to be the best, most credible, free and fair election since the history of the association, Mr. Daniel Ekong Edim popularly known as Ebatex emerged victorious after beating two other candidates who contested against him. 

Ebatex gathered a total of 127 votes to beat his closest rival, Prince Ayito Ekong Eta who scored 94 votes and the incumbent President Mr. Fred M. Okon who attempted returning for a second term gathered a discouraging total number of 4 votes only. 

Other offices contested for are office of the provost where Eta Ekong narrowly won with a total of 108 against Ernest Eyo who gathered 100 votes. Also Samuel Bassey Omin scored 117 votes to narrowly escape losing to Inok Mboffong Omin who gathered 98 votes for office of the Vice President. 

According to the Election Organizing Committee Chairman, Elder Agbor Eta Edim, the election witnessed a total number of 352 registered voters while 250 registered voters were present and accredited to vote. 

Speaking with newsmen, shortly after the election Agbor informed that the election was free, fair and credible as he ensured he was simple, transparent and open all through the process. For him the election has signaled a new light for Akim Qua clan. Stating that election is not about people who have nothing to offer, while he advice the people to support the new government. 

According Ntufam Divine Edim, Head the delegation from Ntoe's cabinet assign to supervise the election and ensure nothing goes wrong, the election was free fair and credible. He noted that the election is worth emulating by other Quo clans.

He informed that the Ntoe's cabinet is fully behind the newly elected Executive as he advised that they represent the people effectively. He also implore them to carry everybody along as the Ntoe's cabinet is ready to partner with them for the growth of the community. 

Speaking with the president elect, Daniel Ekong Edim Ebatex, he said he contested for the office because there's need to restore ethics and traditions of the lands and the youths need to be reintegrated into community development while they are being empowered. 

In his words, "I have a record that can't be dented, I have come to restore ethics and traditions of our land. We must look for ways to reintegrate our youths to community development. We must also seek ways to ensure our youths are empowered and educated. 

I appreciate the electoral committee for their openness sincerity, from all indications, we can all attest that the election was free and fair as well as credible" He noted. 

Earlier on, when our Correspondent spoke with many of the candidates running for various offices they all expressed satisfaction with the electoral process and agreed to accept the outcome of the election except the out going president who immediately after casting his vote refused to talk with the press but displayed an unruly attitude. He was heard shouting outside he was questioning why his name will be written in ink while other candidates names were typed in the ballot paper. 

He also didn't present an agent during the ballot sorting and counting. When he was called on to present his agent he said he wasn't interested in the election anymore. 

When asked, the electoral Chairman, Comrade Agbor Eta informed that the said candidate didn't originally qualify to stand in as a candidate for the elections but some elders from the community prevailed in his case so to avoid further crisis he was cleared on the morning of the election after the ballot papers had been printed so his name was added into the ballot paper using pen.

Speaking further Eta added that the step aside President faulted all the electoral guidelines; "He didn't pick and return his electoral form as at the dates stipulated by the guidelines. His submitted his nomination form without the endorsement of his village head as stipulated by the guidelines of this elections, I was the one who took the form to his village this morning for endorsement after some Chiefs had prevailed on his matter."

The inauguration ceremony for the newly elected Executives will be announced on a later date.
