AWKA  - Governor Willie Obiano has unveiled the Anambra West 12 Year Development Plan (2020-2030), describing the Development Plan for the Local Government Area  as his attempt to provide systematic and unified development in the area.

At the official unveiling on Friday, at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka, the Governor said he was poised to take advantage of emerging opportunities and the ensuing challenges to attain development objectives.

"Considering all the challenges confronting the LGA, this development plan seeks to achieve a sustainable, participatory and people oriented blueprint that will bring the LGA before the eyes of government with overall objective of improving on quality of life and living condition across all the communities. "

"Through transformation of relevant sectors, education and human  capacity development, agriculture and natural resources development, health, security, infrastructure and social welfare and achieve development that can compete globally" he said.

The Governor who was represented by Commissioner for Lands Mr. Bonaventure Enemali said implementation of the 12 year development plan will ultimately improve the quality lives of the people in the area while charging the technical committee to be the driver of the policies.

"Identify who you are, what you have and drive the policies so you can rejoice at the end. You must build your communities by yourselves".

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the technical committee on Anambra West Development Plan HRH Igwe Pius Omachonu said out of the 21 local government areas in the state, Anambra West was the most obscured LGA.

He recalled that the LGA was created in 1996 (25 years) with less infrastrural development to show forth which was the case in many local government areas across the country.

Igwe Pius Omachonu further explained that the reason for not making progress all this years was  because no development plan was made.

Giving his speech, the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Sylvester Orji Okafor commended the technical committee for putting up a great event.

He stated that having a development plan was good but safe guarding the little project facilities installed in various communities was apt. As he noted some of the electric wires in most communities were vandalized.

The local government chairman however pleaded with the community leaders and President General's to curb in people that will work in safeguarding their communities.

Anambra West development plan as presented by Prof. Jaja Nwanegbo, was put together by constituted committee of 30 persons which examined seven existential needs of the LGA anchored on education and human capacity development, agriculture and natural resources, health and wellness programmes, safety and security, infrastructure and social welfare, politics and strategic positioning, art, culture and tourism.

The 12 year plan as expected would be reviewed after 2032.
