C'River 2023: Colossal Damage On PDP as 3 Founding Members Dump Party for APC After Sandy Declared for Governor

As the 2023 General Elections draws near, leaving various political parties with less than seven months to conduct party's primaries where their flag bearers for different offices will be nominated or elected, three political giants in the People's Democratic Party are on their way to joining the All Progressives Congress.

TDN can authoritatively report, after confirming from Arch Bassey Eyo Ndem, Chief Orok Duke and Barr Edem Ekong that the trio will tomorrow 16th December be defecting to the All Progressives Congress in Calabar.

The defection of these three political heavy weight is a strong blow to the PDP as they are not only Foundation members of the People's Democratic Party in Cross River State, but amass a large crowd of political followership.

Chief Orok Duke has been a four terms member of the Cross River State House of Assembly and three term Deputy Speaker of the house. He controls a large crowd of political supporters whom he has groomed over the years. Aside his political protégés and supporters, his love and support for sports endears him to so many young persons who will be willing and ready to stake their lives for his political moves owing to the transformation he has had on their lives via sports.

Thirdly, Orok Duke is the convener of the much celebrated Tinkoriko, a nonpartisan, non-political platform for boys on the streets with diverse cult affiliations. Tinkoriko is the only platform in Cross River State if not Nigeria that provides a common ground for cult members and non cultists alike to relate, joke and play while celebrating the gift of life as it holds on the first day of every year.

Tinkoriko is also another platform Duke can leverage on to convert followers as he joins the All Progressives Congress tomorrow.

Etubom Bassey Eyo Ndem, is a well polished Efik traditional leader who loves and pride in the Calabar heritage. He is currently an Etubom and a member of the Obong of Calabar Council. A business man with several business concerns. He is a well grounded politician and grassrooter who believes in putting the need of the people first.

Having worked with Governor Donald Duke as Commissioner of lands, he has over the years built a large crowd of followers from his business, political and traditional relationships which will surely be emptied into the APC family as he officially signs up tomorrow.

Barr. Edem Ekong is a fine gentleman widely known for his accommodating spirits which earned him the name "King of Boy". A well grounded lawyer and politician par excellence. A strategist and deep thinker who squeezed water out of the rock. As the pioneer Director General of the then Department of Public Transportation, DOPT, Edem Ekong was said to have generated so much revenue from the transport sector to the amazement of his former boss, the then Governor of Cross River State.

Ekong having worked with politicians, and raised boys from the streets still records a high level of street credibility. In fact it is on record that one of the boys he picked from the street to work with him at DOPT eventually became the DG of DOPT.

The defection of these three heavy weights is being said to be a colossal damage to the PDP in Cross River State.

The announcement of these defections is coming up barely 24 hours after Senator Sandy Onor, who represents Cross Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly openly declared his intention to contest the Gubernatorial election come 2023.

What TDN is yet to gather is if the defection is a direct revolt on the party as there have been major concerns that the PDP will be handing over its tickets to Sandy Onor if he eventually indicates interest to run the election despite the agitations that power should return back to the South.

The South had been agitating for all parties to zone their tickets to the South, while the APC through the leader of the Party, governor Ben Ayade had said their ticket will be going to the South, the PDP is yet to make any official statement. This development is giving some many southern aspirants in the party a running stomach as sources has it that many others are preparing to dump the party for APC should it be obvious that they want to undermine the South.
