Press Release: Prince Otu is Not Disqualified, Disregard Documents in Circulations

Prince Bassey Otu

The Cross River APC consensus candidate, Sen. Prince Otu has called on supporters and Cross Riverians to disregard documents circulating that he has been disqualified, stating that he is still in the Gubernatorial race as issues surrounding his disqualification has been clarified.

In a statement signed by his media aide Ekpenyong Akiba Esq, the grassroots politicians noted that he was only requested by the party's screening committee to produce the required certificates which he did and was officially cleared. Adding that the document in circulation is not current as it was released two days ago while he was only cleared yesterday after meeting with the requirements of the committee.

The statement reads in full:

Our attention has been drawn to a misleading trending narrative claiming that Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu was not cleared by the Screening Committee.

The document stated that a mischievous Petition was received by the Screening Committee and that Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu failed to make full disclosure of his educational qualifications.

The committee after careful scrutiny of the Petition and the supporting documents found no evidence to substantiate the allegation of conviction of the aspirant before any court of law.

On his academic credentials, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu only tendered a testimonial to cover for his First School Leaving certificate and his WASC, but the committee requested for the original certificates to be provided and declared the matter inconclusive.

We want to categorically state that:

1. Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu was only requested to produce the required certificates which he did and was officially cleared.

2. The document in circulation is not current as it was released two days ago while Senator Otu was only cleared yesterday after meeting with the requirements of the committee.

We urge our teeming supporters and party faithfuls to remain calm as the people's choice, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu has been screened and cleared.

Ekpenyong Akiba Esq
Media Aide to Distinguished Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu

Recall that social media went agog, earlier today stating that the consensus candidate chosen by the party's leadership had been disqualified based on some certificate issues and wasn't not cleared. The report also said, it was only Sen. Owan Enoh and Chief Agara that was cleared by the committee.
