Why Ben Akak Deserve An Unreserved Apology

Ben Akak and Kwankwaso after a brief meeting in Abuja

Since the Announcement of Prince Otu as the Vonsensus candidate of APC, Engr. Ben Akak, one of the most visible contender of the Gubernatorial seat has been on the spotlight by both his party members and Cross Riverians, watching his every move and trying to read meanings to it.

The hight of it all was yesterday, when social media was set on fire with the news of his defection to New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, owing to a post made by media handlers of Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Presidential flag bearer of the NNPP. A picture Akak took with Kwankwaso was erroneously captioned.

All though the post was later deleted by Kwankwaso's team. But I think beyond deleting the controversial post that has caused tension within the leadership and membership of APC in Cross River state and amongst Cross Riverians, the Handlers of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE page should have the courtesy of publishing an apology to Engr. Ben Etim Akak, a refined and humble gentleman who has always kept faith with the people for a better Nigeria.

Five years ago, when he began the journey towards rebuilding the Cross River of our dream, a state befitting for both the young and the old, rich and poor with the hope of bridging the gaps, he never lost sight of the fact that there will be hurdles on the way and he wasn't selfish nor self centered in his motives. His focus was on the people thus all his activities were people-oriented.

At the peak of this journey, his party, the APC took a decision which he humbly without thinking twice accepted and pledged to support the party.

Notwithstanding, he told Cross Riverians that he will not relent in reaching out to the less privileged in doing good and in bridging the gaps that exist in our society.

It is however not surprising that since he took that decision, there have been several insinuations and every of his step and movement have been termed political. This has made him very cautious of his activities and affiliations so as not to be misunderstood.

As a  businessman, politician and Philanthropist, there are some meetings, invitations and associations you just can't refuse and one of such is his several meetings with a venerable political leader, Businessman and great Philanthropist in the person of Engr Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

One of such meeting may have been wrongly captioned by overzealous aides of Kwankwanso and as a man given to the service of the people, Akak quicky assured his supporter which cuts across party lines and senatorial districts within the state of his continues loyalty and membership as well as strong support for his party, the APC.

Few hours, later realising their mistakes, the said controversial post have been deleted from Kwankwaso's page to confirm it was erroneously posted, but I think beyond that, they should issue a public statement acknowledging their mistake and apologising to Engr. Ben Akak.

Ben Akak also deserves an apology from Calabar Blog and the many people who taunted and abused him for an action he didn't take. Especially media houses and blogs who carried the story without verifying.

Ben Akak is still committed, loyal and supportive of both the Party, APC, Cross River State and the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State.
